From Kejriwal to Mamata, 9 Oppn leaders write to PM Modi condemning Sisodia’s arrest

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, along with eight Opposition leaders including TMC’s Mamata Banerjee, Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Uddhav Thackeray, NCP’s Sharad Pawar and BRS’ K Chandrashekar Rao, shot off a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday condemning the arrest of former Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia by the CBI. “Sisodia’s arrest will be cited worldwide as an example of a political witch-hunt & further confirm what the world was only suspecting — India’s democratic values stand threatened under an authoritarian BJP,” the letter said.

A case of defacement was lodged against the SMC Convenor of Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in Delhi’s Shastri Park for allegedly setting up ‘I Love Manish Sisodia’ desks at government schools in the city. Meanwhile, the AAP once again hit the streets Saturday to protest against Sisodia’s arrest on a day that his CBI custody was extended till Monday by a city court.

In other news, the Delhi government claimed Saturday that L-G V K Saxena has returned the file on Finland teacher training programme in “flagrant violation” of the Constitution and SC orders, and described him as a “mini-dictator”. The L-G has given in-principle approval to the city government’s proposal to send primary teachers of state-run schools to Finland for training but with certain conditions, officials said on Saturday.
